Rx or No Rx – She’s someone’s daughter…

I’m having a really hard time watching all the news articles and TV shows that keep Mitch Winehouse and Amy’s reps and friends busy defending the appropriateness of Amy’s death. Does it matter? It should only matter to her family and friends what she had in her system. Amy was not only a talented artist, she was a daughter, a sister, a Godmother, a friend, a human being. She was someone millions of people loved. She had a huge heart and she loved children.

Not one single person asks to become addicted to drugs or alcohol. Not one. But it happens. This world and the people in it need to realize that addicts are absolutely NOT disposable. Something needs to be done to help people who have an addiction. Amy wrote a song called “Rehab“. Doesn’t it make you wonder why she wrote that?

“I don’t ever wanna drink again
I just ooh I just need a friend
I’m not gonna spend ten weeks
have everyone think I’m on the mend

It’s not just my pride
It’s just ’til these tears have dried”

Rehab doesn’t work. It’s something deeper that that. As far as medical science has come you would think we would have something for addicts to take not a 12 step program that not only doesn’t work, but also makes a person feel like a bigger piece of shit should they relapse. Read the lyrics again.

My heart goes out to Mitch, his wife and her friends and family. It’s no one’s business. Only yours. It doesn’t matter how Amy died or what she had in her system. What matters is that she is now gone, forever.  I’m a mother and I would never even want to imagine what it feels like to lose a daughter. Everyone needs to stop pointing fingers and pulliung the lab card.

RIP Amy
